"Arthur" World Premiere

Despite the smiles, this is one drab red carpet.

The world premiere of "Arthur" was held at the Zeigfeld Theatre in New York City last night and apparently the style directive was "Stars in beige, co-stars in secretarial drag." Let's move in for a closer (and bitchier) look.

Queen Helen, we're a bit concerned about you lately. A few years ago you put the "sex" back in "sexagenarian" by being the most famous 60-year-old in a bikini. You've been an inspiration to women of all ages by showing them that age doesn't have to do a thing to hinder one's desirability and beauty doesn't end at forty. But lately you've been showing distinct whiffs of "mother of the bride" in your wardrobe. Certainly a woman in her 60s has earned the right to cover her arms or any other part of her body if she's feeling a bit demure, but you've been deploying shawls to an alarming extent lately and when it's paired with a dress that look like it belongs on a whirling dervish, we think something's gone awry. Also, you look better in color.

Pairing this look with a black sash and pumps took everything interesting out of the look and it went from chic to office. We aren't saying she should have mimicked the runway look exactly, but this was not the way to make changes.

Another interesting look that goes a little secretarial (assuming you're the kind of secretary who likes to wear sheer tops) when you take the boots away. The somewhat severely pinned hair doesn't help.

Russell Brand

We don't think you can pull off skinny pants unless they're in a dark color, Russell. Then again, the whole suit looks ill-fitted.

What's wrong with this cast? Is the movie that bad? All these outfits say "I'm fulfilling my contractual obligation," rather than "I'm THRILLED my movie is opening! You're going to LOVE it!" Isn't that the point of the red carpet? We're being cute. Of COURSE it's the point.
